The American Revolution, also known as the American War of Independence began on April 19, 1775. This war lasted approximately six years, ending it on October 19, 1781. This war is what brought the 13 colonies independence from the British. The reason that us as American citizens have freedom today is because of America's defeat over the British in the American Revolution.
